Ringback tones – this is the new cellphone customization craze of the 2000′s. If you’re a cellphone user, there is little chance that you haven’t already heard of them. What I’d like to do is give you a couple of ideas about how you can have fun with ringback tones on your cell.
My favorite thing about ringback tones is probably not something that many people think of, but the majority of the ringback clips that I put on my cellphone are not music, but instead they are just plain audio clips. Well, not just any old clips – the ringback tones that I look for mostly fun clips that will make any body that calls me smile or even laugh out loud.
The audio clips that I look for are old style comedy clips. Even though these haven’t been in circulation for many many years, and have long ago exited the tv comedy show rotation, I think they are fun to find and put on my phone as my ringback tones. Since a lot of people that call me will be hearing these for the first time, it’s actually seems like I have the coolest ringback tone around.
More typically, music clips will be the sound of choice for the majority of customers using ringback tones. If you spend any time searching the web for cool stuff for your cell phone, you’ve no doubt seen the endless ads for current R&B and pop hits downloadable as ringtones. Although not as prevalent, ringback tone selections pretty much echo the commercially available ringtone collections. The great thing is that the cell phone carriers stay up to date with current music releases, since obviously these are hugely popular.
Even if you are a die-hard fan of a less popular music style – for example I know some people who just won’t consider listening to anything but jazz, then you won’t have any problem finding ringback tones that fit into your musical tastes. Since you depend on your wireless carrier to create a selection of downloadable ringback tones, there might be a limited selection if your style of music is really obscure, but most providers carry at least some tones from just about any genre you can think of.
To get the ringback tones installed on your phone, you need to go through either a call-in interface, or use the carrier’s website to select and purchase the ringback tone you want on your phone. Yes, I did say ‘purchase’, because unfortunately you can’t control your own clips, and therefore you can’t get free ringback tones. The clips are stored on the wireless company’s server, so you must go through their setup program to select and program them for your phone. Regardless of that fact, it’s just one more fun thing that I can do with my cell phone, so I can guarantee that I will continue to set up ringback tones on my cell phone.
