Better Understanding The Sheer Importance Of A Guitar Case Whether It Be Hard Or Soft

January 12th, 2012

This article is going to attempt to help more beginning players better be able to understand the importance of a guitar case. There are more than one good reason to use one of these handy devices for storing one’s instrument and this article is going to discuss some of them.

People that are trying to decide what type of storage device to use are going to be looking at two very common options. The first option is a soft design. While not offering the level of protection that other models might, these designs typically offer more room for the storage of other things.

A lot of players are very concerned over their instrument’s safety so they go with the hardest hard shell design that they can find. A good hard shell will allow players to drop the instrument onto a hard concrete surface without breaking or harming it. They have been known to snap open at the wrong time however so this should never be attempted on purpose. Anyway the purpose is how protection is the selling point behind such designs.

There are three reasons that most players have for choosing any type of device whether it be hard or even soft shelled. The first reason is always protection. Even the softest type of device is probably going to protect a valuable instrument from the harsh, outdoor weather elements. Having a place to store the instrument while it is not being used is also a type of protection.

The second reason that many players have for buying one of these devices is typically going to have to do with the fact that they will be able to carry their instrument around much easier. While transporting an instrument back and forth is not important at first, it becomes a very common part of playing gigs. A lot of players want to be able to easily carry, and walk with their instrument.

As players advance into playing various types of gigs it is not very uncommon for their pocket to be filled with cables, picks and also microphones. These type of storage devices (even the hard ones) offer another place that a player can use to stash these type of things.

By now, more beginning players should be well aware of the sheer importance of a guitar case. These devices offer protection, an easier way to transport the instrument and also additional storage. When a person begins to play gigs, storage will be an extremely important thing.

If you are searching for that double electric guitar case, you should look at those Mono cases as soon as possible. Let us help you today.

The Best Guitar Humidifier

December 28th, 2011

The Dampit Guitar Humidifier

The Dampit Humidifier is the very first humidifier that I purchased for my guitars. They are very simple and very effective. To use the unit simply place your guitar in its case and clip the Dampit through the sound-hole and clip to the guitar top carefully. You can then make use of the plastic cover that comes with the unit to cover the sound hole, although I choose not to bother with the cover as I want to keep things as simple as quick as possible.

After charging the humidifier with water, you ought to wring or shake excess water from it to prevent staining the unfinished surfaces of the guitar interior. The directions for implementing this are clearly stated in the accompanying directions.

There may be more elaborate and expensive systems available, although this simple, hassle-free, and inexpensive unit can easily eliminate your humidity related problems.

Dislikes: The supplied humidity measurement system that comes packaged with the unit is not very reliable. I would much prefer a more accurate system to monitor humidity levels. The Oasis OH-2 hydrometer is an excellent way to go as it consistently and accurately monitors the humidity levels inside your guitar case.

The Planet Waves Guitar Humidifier

This is a very simple guitar humidifier system as well. Just take the included plastic syringe, fill it with water and drip it into the humidifier. Be careful so as not to overload the sponge or overfill the reservoir as this can cause leaking from the unit into the unfinished wood of your guitar. By using this humidifier, moist air will travel through the entire case, exposing your entire guitar to humidity.

Dislikes: In my estimation, trying to load the sponge just a few drops at a time is rather irritating. I additionally found it rather inconvenient to stick the unit between the strings, which can throw your guitar slightly out of tune. Also with this as many other systems, there is not a reliable method (or any) for checking the humidity levels and this is some very important feedback that you need.

The Guitar Humidifier by Herco

When looking for an instrument humidification system for my violins and mandolins, I came across this handy little humidifier. Considering the compact size of this little instrument humidifier, and being comparatively leak-free, you can locate it nearly anywhere in your case.

All it is is a plastic container that is filled with some clay that is water absorbent. Because of the small size, it worked fantastic for my smaller instruments. If you wish to use them for your larger instruments, such as a guitar, I would suggest using 2 of them for better results.

This comes without instructions so it might be useful to know that the correct way to use this is to drop it in a cup of water for at least five minutes. Next just wipe the excess water from the unit and pop it into your case. Just do this every few days. My experience has shown that his little humidifier will not leak and it will keep your wooden instruments humidified.

Dislikes: There is not a humidity monitoring system and you ought to purchase a good hydrometer such as the Oasis OH-2

Oasis OH-2 Digital Hygrometer And The OH-2 Case Humidifier System

I personally use the Oasis OH-6 and OH-2 guitar humidifier system as the ideal one-two punch to keep humidity in check for my most valuable and fragile pre-war Martin and Gibson acoustics. This combination of humidifier and hydrometer will easily deliver a consistent level of humidity to your guitar case to keep your instruments between the ideal 30% and 40% relative humidity. This can additionally be monitored with the OH-2 hydrometer so adjustments can be made when necessary.

The humidifier can be situated in various locations with the enclosed clip device. When the OH-6 is coupled with the excellent OH-2 Hydrometer you have a fantastic combination in humidity control that is tough to beat. This is my favorite system because it is a system approach and I have not had a single humidity related problem since using them.

Dislikes: This system has worked flawlessly so I have no dislikes.

How to Decide on Strings For Your Guitar

September 26th, 2011

So you’ve spent hours of your energy considering reviews, testing different guitars, and comparing prices and possess finally found the best acoustic guitar for you personally. Congratulations! Now it’s about time so that you can find the best strings for yourself as well. Lucky for you though, it is a lot easier than picking out the guitar itself. Guitarists have different preferences of strings depending on weight, simplicity of use, and also the guitar they swear by. Choosing the right group of strings makes or breaks the tone of even the best acoustic guitar. To get the best sound through your guitar, it’s critical that good strings are chosen.

Different kinds of Strings You will discover generally 3 different types of guitar strings:

1. Nylon Strings Made especially for classical and jazz guitars nylon strings provide a warm tone to produce classical and jazz music. Nylon strings are ideal for beginners since they are gentle to the fingers and are gentler than acoustic steel strings. Additionally it is possible to set nylon strings on acoustic guitars.

2. Acoustic Steel Strings Made up of brass and bronze, these strings are best for making rock’n'roll, country, and folk music. Steel strings produce a much brighter and sharper tone when compared with nylon strings. It is recommended to not use steel strings on classical guitars since they can harm the instrument. It is most beneficial to decide what type of music you’re going to play and install strings in accordance.

3. Electric Guitar Strings These are made of nickel-plated steel or chrome steel and therefore are specially generated for only electric guitars.

Choosing Your Strings

1. Choosing Strings In accordance with Your Playing Style Each playing style is coupled with a different sort of string. Choosing strings for tone that can then be softer and warmer or brighter and sharper is a lot more determined by the player’s style as opposed to the guitar itself. Classical and jazz guitarists would choose nylon strings or lighter steel strings. A rock guitarist would choose thicker and heavier steel strings.

2. What Weight You Need The load or gauge of your guitar strings can be a major factor in selecting the best ones for you. Thicker strings will probably have more tension or more vibrant sound. Lighter strings have to have a gentler touch being that they are much easier to break. Guitarists alsofind it easier to choose strings once they have tried few different kinds. People decide the gauge with the strings once their hand feels comfortable on the particular kind.

3. Prices It’s good to choose strings that happen to be economical to buy. Professional guitarists have to change their strings regularly since strings wear out when they are played constantly. It is nice to buy in bulk and keep an extra set in the event the one to the guitar breaks.

4. Brands There a many brands designed for guitar strings that are made available online. These strings are engineered to get a long life and seldom break. Some guitarists recommend these branded strings, yet others feel there’re expensive and encourage using unbranded ones. Try choosing a few different brands, and after using each, keep to the one you like the simplest.

Would You Like To Learn Guitar Without Reading Music?

November 9th, 2010

It is a common belief that you must be able to read music in order to learn how to play an instrument well. However, this is not true and many people who play instruments never learn to sight read. Those who wish to learn how to play the guitar are at a very special advantage because you can learn guitar without reading music, since it has its own numerical system of representing what you are supposed to play.

It is possible to learn to play the guitar by learning to read tablature. Tablature is a form of written music that does not revolve around the use of abstract or complex symbols. It is very easy to learn to read and can make learning the guitar a much faster process.

Tablature consists of numbers that are placed upon lines. Each line represents a string on the guitar, so the topmost string will relate to the bottom line and the bottom string will relate to the top line in tablature. The order is inverted in tablature because it is using the top line, which your eyes will naturally see first, to represent the string which your fingers will meet first.

The numbers you see when reading tablature relate to the frets on the guitar, which makes it very easy to understand. You do not have to worry about reading odd looking symbols or note names. You just need to move your fingers to the correct fret, which is given to you right in the tablature.

When reading tablature, you may see that there are several numbers within a single vertical space. This means that you will be playing all of those notes at the same time. In other words, you will be playing a chord.

There are also chord charts which show you how to form chords with your fingers. These charts display the strings of the guitar and where your fingers should be placed upon each string in order to form a specific chord. Once you memorize these chords, you will be able to play music where the chords are referenced by their names, such as A#, Asus7, or A9.

* A pair of scissors or a sharp knife for slicing * Charcoal pencil or colored chalk for carbon copying * Masking tape * A pencil to trace and mark * Blueprint material like thin cardboard or a thick poster board.

Step 1 – Prepare to switch the guitar form to the poster board. This system is called making a carbon copy. Take the guitar plans and place it face down over a white surface on a desk, if you cannot see the lines clearly then take the blueprints and place it downwards on a bright or lighted background. This can be on a lighted desk or against a window in your shop throughout the day. The point is that you wish to clearly see the strains on the entrance when looking on the backside of the plans.

October 2nd, 2010

Last night a buddy of mine and I were having dinner in this tavern downtown. We eaten some pretty delicious burgers, and it was time to head out. But all of a sudden, this guy started playing this acoustic guitar. And it was really good music. This guy wasn’t an amateur or anything, he played sweeter than any musician I’d ever heard.

I wanted to know where he learned such amazingly beautiful guitar playing skills. Like when you see a famous painter, and he is painting something really beautiful. This guitar player was just like this, only he used music instead of paint. I finally asked him where he learned his mad skills, and he said he learned from a reclusive guitar master who never slept in the same spot twice in the same night.

So finally after some prodding and pushing, he finally agreed to introduce us to the owner. It was the best acoustic guitar lesson I’d ever experienced. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I think I shall be enjoying guitar music for many years to come.

Immediately after we finished our initial tutorial, he provided us a history of the guitar. The classical guitar was invented by a number of diverse cultures at various times throughout history, therefore no one people can assert the acoustic guitar as their own. But the first man who made it renowned was this American guy about several hundred years before.

Following that it went mainstream, and pretty much everyone was enjoying the traditional acoustic guitar. At celebrations, on road corners, and even in dining places like the one me and my good friend first connected with this wonderful and marvelous acoustic guitar player. I inform you, it was the most amazing encounter I’ve ever had the enjoyment of experiencing.

If you like music, I will tell you the fact. Enjoying the acoustic guitar is far and away the finest and easiest way to convey your inner thoughts, let fly your feelings, and get in touch with that fantastic super conscious mind that is actually in touch with all people. Primarily the acoustic guitar is chosen because it is so easy to learn. Just a few chords is all you need to be able to play along with almost any song. And this gives you sufficient motivation to keep playing and learning.

The second, and obvious reason why the guitar is so popular is that you can take it anywhere you want to go, and you don’t need any extra equipment, save a pick, to play it. You can carry it with you wherever you go, and pull it and play it whenever you feel like it. And when you do that, you’ll really feel the magic that comes with performing for people.
