Indie Music: Popular Music Tested Over Time

As another Decade finally closes its doors, and another one is about to start, let’s take a look at some defining moments of the last Decade. Every Decade has defining moments, whether it is technological advances or something in the Media, or even something to do with the music of the past Decade, namely indie music.

When you consider that New wave only lasted for the eighties, or Alternative rock only really lasted for the Nineties, it is unique to find that the indie movement is still going strong.

The indie bands are still as popular today as when they first started out.

So what is meant by indie music? Basically any band that did not get signed to a corporate label but released a chart record was classed as indie, although this does not apply now, as quite a few bands have since signed for the big name labels but still like to be known as indie bands.

What is for certain is that indie bands were out of the mainstream of music; this meant that they did not play all your traditional top 40 kind of music; they were a little bit more creative than usual.

If this is what indie music is all about, well perhaps indie music is going to be around a lot longer than your traditional music Genre’s of previous Decades, with the indie Artists trying out all kinds of new and different sounds that they call music and it should be good to listen to this.

It is always a good thing for music fans when something new comes along, but in the case of indie, where there is such a wide creative scope, it seems that indie is always going to be a new sound.

Music tends to dominate a certain decade, but it looks like indie music is going to break the mould on this. Let’s see how long the indie culture is around for.

Classical music is not as well-loved as it once was when there were few choices in music available. Most of the time, the words “classical music” evoke memories of high school concert bands and Bach.

Classical is the oldest type of music. It encompasses many different elements and instruments. Most people who listen to this type of music appreciate the sounds and technicality of the music.

Classical can be simple or complex depending on what the composer was feeling at the time they were writing it.

Research suggests that health problems including high blood pressure and stress can be improved by listening to classical music.

Classical music is made up of sounds that are considered to he high-frequency. Many studies have said that the high-frequency sounds aide in energizing parts of your brain to help boost health.

Low-frequency sounds, by contrast, can have a deleterious effect on health, by depressing certain brain functions. Most music that people listen to today is made up of sounds that are in the low-frequency range of tones.

Pregnant females often get advice that says she should place earphones on her stomach and pipe classical music through them. Research indicates that when a fetus is exposed to classical music, there is a chance that the baby will remember the music that was played after he or she is born.

Classical music’s complex and highly varied rhythmic structure could be responsible for this phenomenon.

Classical music is ubiquitous. You will hear it in all sorts of settings, from book stores to eateries to the radio in your car.

Even though classical music is complicated, it is also peaceful and quieting, which allows listeners to get into a more relaxed and contented state of mind.

Classical music is not subject to the changes in tastes and trends that modern popular music is. It will always have a place in our culture.

Today with the rise in popularity of the internet all you need to find some great instrumental music online is a computer with an internet connection. By simply pointing your browser with search terms like instrumental music, you are smothered by a whole smorgasbord of websites offering not only paid, but free online instrumental music.

To give you a head start on your search, Ill point you in the direction of a few places Ive found to be some of best sites to listen to instrumental music online.

First on my list is AOL Radio. This is a place to go for music to relax and meditate by. And you dont have to be an AOL member to listen. Simply type AOL Radio in your browser and you are directed to their main Music site. From the main Stations by Category list located on the left side of the site, under Eclectic, youll find titles such as Ambient, Meditation, Nature Sounds and New Age. This site also offers a Classical section where you can find stations playing every type of classical instrumental music online that you can think of from Baroque to Renaissance. This is one of my favorite spots to go to listen to Classical instrumental music online. The music on AOL Radio is rarely interrupted with talking, save for the occasional two minutes for site identification purposes. To check out this site go to www.music.aol.com.

You wont be able to find any Christian instrumental or Christmas holiday instrumental music on AOL. So, for those of you wanting to listen to free instrumental Christian music online, sign up on www.crosswalkradio.com. Youll be asked to register on the Salem Web Network All-Pass System, after which, they will send you an e-mail confirming your registration. Once you are logged into Crosswalk, you simply click the “Instrumental” button and you are on your way to listening to some of the best Christian instrumental music on the web.

To listen to free online instrumental Christmas music, go to www.live365.com which has instrumental online radio stations where you can find all Jazz Christmas instrumentals, or a collection of traditional and non-traditional Christmas instrumentals in the new age genre, including ambient and Celtic. This is one of my favorite places to go to listen to Christmas instrumental music online because they have a great variety of instrumental Christmas music online radio stations so I can flip through them whenever a song comes on I dont like. The music is free for the listening with no sign up; however, it does have many more interruptions for ads than does AOL Radio. Live 365 does offer an option to subscribe and enjoy ad-free music. Depending on how much music you listen to, it might well be worth the price of subscription.

The number one spot online for great instrumental jazz music is My Music Stream. I go here to listen to all the latest and greatest jazz instrumentals and also to listen to some old jazz classics. Theres nothing like jazz. Its like the rebel of all music with its spontaneity and feel driven rhythms.

Score another point for My Music Stream. This is also the place I visit to get my instrumental mix of blues. Like jazz they have a wide variety of blues instrumentals that comfort me in my time of need.
