Great Settings For First Dates

August 16th, 2011

The first date is always a really interesting scenario. Depending upon how you met the person and how well you know them, the first few hours spent with them on this date can be a make or break scenario that either sets the tone for a great relationship, or quickly causes things to fizzle out.

Lots of people will put so much thought into deciding where that first date is going to take place at. After all, that is essentially what will set the tone for evening.

Going with a place or event that is geared towards fun is pretty important, since you will be able to relax and be yourself around your date.

Next we will talk about three ideas that maybe you have not thought of to ensure a nice transition into the date. It would be a good idea to perhaps choose one of them if you just do not know what to do or where to go.

One fun idea is to go to a live event. Whether it’s something like a comedy club or a coffee shop with live music, you might not be able to talk much while you’re there, but you’ll have plenty to discuss once it’s done.

Your date will see that you are someone who likes to have fun and go to different events that he or she might not get to very often.

Secondly, make plans to go and play miniature golf together. This game is lots of fun with ample opportunity for conversing with each other as there will not be a lot of noise going on.

Lastly, has the thought of going to a park and having a picnic crossed your mind? The two of you can share a good meal and easily chat the day away while thoroughly enjoying the beautiful sunshine outside in the fresh air. Your date will most likely have a great time and think that you are wonderful.

El Sol de Mexico: Luis Miguel

July 16th, 2011

Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri was born in 1970 in Puerto Rico to an exceptionally talented family. His father, Luisito Rey was a Spanish singer and his mother, Mercella Basteri an Italian actress. Sadly, when Luis was just a teen his mother disappeared. Luis’s father took over the rearing of he and his two younger brothers, quickly establishing himself as the manager of his oldest son. Elvis Presley had always been an icon the Basteri home, but after Luis’s mother disappeared his father strongly encouraged Luis to study every film, recording and performance of the performer.

Early in Luis Miguel’s life the family moved to Mexico. Luis identifies himself as Mexican with Italian and Spanish origin, proudly singing the folk songs of those cultures. At the tender age of 11 Luis released his first album entitled Un Sol. At age 15 he won second place in the San Remo Music Festival. He toured many Latin American countries, including Chile, Argentina and Venezuela.

In 1990 Luis made a successful transition from child performer to adult singer with his third album 20 Anos. He toured and sung for several sold out shows all over Mexico, Latin America and the world. This third album sold 60,000 copies in just the first week, resulting in two singles hitting number one on Billboard’s Hot Latin Tracks in 1990.

In 1993 Luis Miguel won a Grammy Award for his fifth album, Aries. The accomplishment earned him attention from many North American musicians such as Frank Sinatra, who invited Luis to join him on a duets album. In 1996 he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and immediately after that recorded Suena; which became the main theme for Disney’s the Hunchback of Notre Dame. During his career, Luis has recorded 32 albums and ten music videos. Of those albums, three have been Diamond Discs, 304 Platinum Discs, 34 Gold Discs and 16 singles have achieved number once status on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks.

Luis Miguel has had an illustrious career spanning 25 years and almost all music genres including pop, bolero, mariachi and romantic ballads. He is considered among the top male singers in the world, and the main star from Latin America. Luis Miguel’s successful transition from child star to a gifted international singer is part of his success, which was largely due to his wide vocal range and charismatic performance abilities. All those hours studying Elvis Presley clearly made Luis Miguel what he is today. That begs the question: Is Luis Miguel the Latin Elvis?

More Musicians of the Dominican Republic

June 19th, 2011

The Dominican Republic is generally not at the top of the list when thinking of Latin American nations known for their music. It is however, home to innumerable talented people who have experienced international acclaim for their talents. Some have left their native country and traveled to the US or Spain in search of fame, others have chosen to stay on the little Caribbean island and foster their craft. Here we take a look at two more musicians who call the Dominican Republic their home.

Juan Francisco Ordonez was born in 1961 in Santo Domingo. He earned himself a degree in economics from a university in Santo Domingo, but had always studied guitar on the side. Juan learned formal music composition at the Dominican National Conservatory, and later became part of the folk group Convite. Later on he found a more comfortable place as lead guitar for Transporte Urbano and stayed with that group for more than 25 years. During those years the band toured the world, even performing in the former USSR.

Outside of his band life, Juan worked on fusion projects with other musicians and eventually put together a Caribbean trio called Trilogia. Juan has a unique sound all his own that has tones of blues, rock, jazz; all of which come together to create the now popular guitar language bachata. For that reason along he is considered the father of bachata.

Aisha Syed Castro was born in 1989 in Santiago, Dominican Republic. At the age of four Aisha began studying violin and flute with the internationally acclaimed professor Henry Disla. At the age of six Aisha was a member of the Children’s Symphony Orchestra. At eleven years old she made a solo performance with the National Symphony Orchestra and attended a violin symposium at the Julliard School in New York.

Aisha was the first Latin American person to be admitted to the Yehudi Menuhim School in London, also winning herself a scholarship for her impressive grades. Even at the young age of 22, Aisha has performed around the world, in front of international heads of state and well respected musicians. Clearly this young woman has a bright future in music, and all from meager roots in the Dominican Republic.

These two people are excellent representatives of the talent existing in the Dominican Republic, both in folk and classical genres of music. One has embraced the nuances of Caribbean rhythms, the other has found a love in the soothing melodies of the classics. Would it not be interesting to have both on one stage creating a whole new sound?

Even though it was and still is basically recognized for the gambling that you can do here openly, Vegas is the largest city in the state of Nevada and is also in the top 30 largest for the United States as a whole. The Las Vegas metro area has just under 2 million people and quite a large portion of them are employed in the hospitality industry. Many people know of the well known Strip with its flashing light up cowboy that glows at night to welcome tourists, but there is quite a lot more to do here, as well. Believe it or not, there is a thriving art scene in Las Vegas that happens to come out to play during First Fridays when artists present their work for sale and musicians turn out to amuse. Galleries, as well, showcase what they have available each Thursday, also.

For individuals who want their amusement to be a tad lower key as well as more natural, the Las Vegas Zoo provides more than 150 unique species of flora and fauna to show off from all over the world. Making Time Pass Quicker

August 4th, 2010

With gas being as expensive as it is right now, people have started using trains, or buses, more often, to take them where they need to be. Nothing is as boring as having to travel for several hours, with complete strangers, and nothing to do.

Not all people find it easy to stay in one place, with nothing to keep them occupied, and so, most try to sleep or read a book, watch people or try to hide in the seat and pretend they are not there. Not exactly an easy feat, considering the ambient noise and large number of people around. So, how do you make time pass quicker?

Using the Sansa e250 mp3 player is one option to help the hours pass by faster than just sitting around bored. The hours will just fly by when you’re watching your favorite show, or listening to your favorite music, or browsing around on your player looking for something to do. If your music collection just doesn’t do it for you, the player also has a built in FM tuner, to listen to the radio.

The strong alloy metal casing of the player lets you enjoy your music, and not worry about other people bumping into you and causing you to drop it.

If you don’t feel comfortable with your headphones on, try to find a pair that is less visible than what you have now. Their quality is equally important, since you don’t want the entire compartment listening to your music. Sound isolation takes care of that, and makes listening to music a more personal experience.

Make traveling an enjoyable experience by investing in the tiny, but the feature packed player. You certainly won’t regret it, and your ears will love you for it. Why listen to other travelers when you enjoy yourself by listening to your music? Try it out. You won’t be able to travel without it, afterwards!

Important Camping Tips

July 26th, 2010

People usually go on camping trips to enjoy themselves while spending some time in the great outdoors. Normal people do, at least. We have some family friends that said they absolutely hated camping trips, and would rather be working than go on one. Yet, every year, they went on at least two of them. We didn’t know where, but they were gone for several days.

We were as curious as you might be as to why they continued going if they hated it so much, but no answer was ever received. We tried to joining them on several occasions, yet they seemed reluctant and simply refused.

Once, when we were shopping together, I saw them buying a big tent, explaining to me that a good tent is crucial to have, when going camping. When I pointed out that it was very big, and probably heavy, and surely a smaller tent would have sufficed, they just laughed. Knowing they’ve went on so many camping trips, I figured they knew what they were doing.

It turns out they did know what they were doing, as I found out on the next night. They were supposed to leave on one of their camping trips, but I heard them making noise in the hallway. A quick look showed me they were going to the top of the building, instead of exiting it.

Deciding to see where they were going, I followed them to the roof. They had everything set up there, including the large tent, [a collection of magazines, and a zune 8gb

After recovering from their initial shock, they started laughing as hard as they could. It appears this was “their” secret camping place, and a very relaxing one. They were kind enough to let us join them, now, and we do so, at every opportunity. Just be on the lookout for two tents on top of a building.
