If you’ve seen the Mass Effect 2 trailer to “tease” you about the advent of this second incarnation, you’ll see that the camera slowly pans over an armor suit that’s very familiar. The camera zooms in on the chest area, and we see “N7.” Ah-ha, it’s that of the main character, Shepherd.

Only, it’s not. Actually, a Geth soldier wears the suit, and we learn that Shepherd was killed in action. However, these accounts, as they say, were greatly exaggerated, and he’s actually back in Mass Effect 2, with a whole new threat to face.

What should you know about Mass Effect 2? Well, first of all, it shares its love of multiple endings with Mass Effect, so there’ll be some more of those. Primarily, you’ll be on a suicide mission, and the beginning of the game will tell you that. Of course, Shepherd and his team already know this.

What will it be? The entire team, and you, can live, or you can die. Whether or not you live depends upon what you’ll do and the decision to make during the game. Your decisions will shape your outcome. If you do happen to have your character die in Mass Effect 2, though, you’ll still be able to play him in Mass Effect 3.
