Protecting Your Children From Harmful Music

July 8th, 2010

Music is everywhere. It’s in the car, on the subway, at restaurants, in theme parks, and now, with the invention of iPods and headphones, people don’t have to leave their music behind for even a second. Almost everywhere in the world there are people listening to music.

Teenagers and kids are especially likely to be found listening to music. Yet, what is it that they are spending all their time listening to? Parents often buy their child an iPod because, “everyone else has one”, but don’t even know what their child is listening to. The world is faced with a generation of naive parents when it comes to the music industry and its affects on their children.

These days, lyrics that talk about lying, cheating, stealing, committing suicide, shooting people and taking their money, and other gruesome topics, are being pounded into thousands of teenager’s and children’s brains on a regular basis. While most will claim that it doesn’t affect them or that they don’t even hear the words, statistics show this is not the case. Music can have great influence on our lives.

If you think about it, music really does affect our lives. If you pop in an upbeat CD, you’ll start to feel more energized. If you put in a gloomy song, you’ll feel sad. The tone of the music affects us and so does the lyrics. Statistics show that words really affect us, especially words that are repeated over and over. Listening to crude concepts or foul language constantly has a negative influence on listeners that can be difficult to erase.

The other problem with the music-obsessed generation is their hearing is slowly going down. Having powerful amps and loud headphones is slowly eroding their hearing. If the volume is not kept in check, these people might be faced with hearing problems later on in life. Parents need to be aware of these things and protect their children. Music certainly isn’t bad, it just needs to be monitored. If you are going to protect your children from music you should protect them in the home as well. Having a home security system is a good way to do this.
