Learn To Tune Your Guitar By Ear Using E

December 15th, 2011

Those who are new to playing the guitar are often so anxious to get started that they don’t learn to tune properly. Certainly you should take the time to learn to tune your guitar by ear for many reasons. One of these is that there are times when tuners are not available. Ear tuning is actually quite simple and often times much faster too. Sometimes this type of tuning is necessary to make small adjustments quickly. It takes very little time and effort to learn.

After playing the instrument for a while, most people get pretty good at using their ear to determine whether or not a string is in tune. Of course tuning each string based on its expected tone for a given tuning can be a bit much to ask at first. Instead, getting the low E tuned is a good place to start, and most newcomers are pleased to find they can get pretty close, even without a tuner.

With the sixth string providing the proper pitch, all the other strings can be tuned relative to the sound of the string directly above it. For example, the fifth string should be an A. Picking the sixth string on the fifth fret also results in an A. This means string 5 can be tuned to the sound of string six when played five frets up.

String four, played open, is a D note. This same D can be found on the A string by picking it in the fifth fret. The third string is G, and it should sound exactly like the fourth string played in fret five. Match them and keep moving down.

The second string, also known as B, is where the pattern changes. To play a B on this string it must be picked at the fourth fret. For standard turning this is the only time fret five isn’t used.

Move back up to the fifth fret for the first string. This is high E and should match the tone that results from playing the second string on fret five. Finally, play the first and sixth strings. They should match. Remember the sixth string is Low E and the first string is the same note only one octave higher.

This tuning process will become quite easy with time. It can be an excellent way to learn to tune your guitar by ear and can help get you tuned up in a hurry. Since tuning is based off the pitch of the sixth string, the entire guitar will sound correct even if it is not perfectly in tune as a whole.

Choosing The Right Musical Instrument For Your Child

June 20th, 2011

A child should learn how to play a musical instrument. Even if your children won’t become famous in the music industry, it doesn’t hurt them to know how to play an instrument. Every child loves music and some are even passionate about it. Still, choosing the best instrument for your kid can be a taxing subject. At first, you should know that it’s not enough for you to choose an instrument. Your child is the one who will finally decide if that is the appropriate musical instrument. If it’s not fun, the kid won’t enjoy playing it and it will all become a huge waste of time and money.

All instruments have their complexities and each parent should take them into account before purchasing one. You shouldn’t try to push your children onto a specific instrument, unless they really like and enjoy. In fact, it has to be your child’s choice. They also have to like their teacher and the music they’re playing in order to keep practicing on a daily basis. In conclusion, the instrument must be fun for each and every child.

You can save a lot of time and money by following a few guidelines in what concerns choosing the right musical instrument for your kid. At the same time, you should be patient and understanding enough to know that it usually takes years to become good at music. Parents should encourage their children to explore their preferences and interest to find the best musical instrument for them.

Parents should find out what the noise level is for each musical instrument and if you have a suited vehicle to carry it around. Besides that, you should see if you have enough storage room in your house, because some musical instruments can occupy a lot of space. Specialists say there is a suited musical instrument for everyone and that the most important thing is that your children find out which ones are suited for them.

Specialists say that the PRS musical instruments are the best; many pop and rock stars begun their musical careers practicing and playing a PRS guitar produced by this well-known firm. After purchasing such a guitar, all you have to do is to encourage your kid to practice each and every day. Many children have talent, but if they don’t practice, and if they don’t take musical lessons seriously, it is hard to believe that they will become stars someday. Music is supposed to be fun, but music is also supposed to be educational and children have a lot to gain from this experience that will help them later in life. Not every kid that owns a guitar will become a rock star, but they can all learn a few things about discipline and the joy offered by music.

Stretching Your Guitar Strings

June 13th, 2011

If your guitar strings are not stretched, they may go out of tune or break. A guitar player looks after his instrument with great care and passion. You can create amazing sounds with your guitar and with the effects pedals. The instrument has got to be well looked after because it is enough to do even a slight band on the higher strings and they go out of tune. If you do not stretch your guitar strings, they will loosen while you play.

Stretching your strings takes time and you need to be patient and attentive. When you have new strings, make sure you stretch them in order to keep them flexible.

By stretching them, your strings get more flexible and more durable. To start with, restring your guitar and then stretch the strings. Stretch before tuning, otherwise they break. Your guitar will stay in tune. During the process, your strings might snap and you need to pay attention to keep your face at safe distance.

As a general rule, use a plane surface to place the guitar on. With the help of your pointer and middle finger of your left hand push down on the low E string at the first fret. Grasp the first string halfway between the nut and the bridge. Slide your thumb on your right hand under the low E string at the fifth fret. Now gently pull up the low E string while still pushing down with your left hand. Don’t pull too hard or you’ll break it. One inch away from the guitar bridge will do. Pull it up and down a few times.

When you sense a tension, gradually lower the string back into place. Repeat the same things on the same string two or three times. Do not be hasty and do not make sudden movements.

Now, you have finished stretching the first string. Move your left hand up two frets and your right hand up two frets and repeat procedure. Repeat until you reach the fifteenth fret. Do the same for the rest of the strings.

Tuning your guitar is the next step. Use your own hearing or an electric tuner. After tuning, stretch the strings once again using the same procedure like before. It might be necessary to tune your strings once again after all that. After all, playing the guitar is hard enough and you have to be really passionate to do it.

Stretching and tuning must be done repeatedly until the strings can be stretched without going out of tune. Once you reached the point where they do not go out of tune again, it means you have accomplished your task.

If you use the guitar effects pedals from Sounds Great Music you can surely improve the overall quality of your music. And if you stretch your strings, they will stay in tune.

Improvise A Recording Studio At Home

June 4th, 2011

You want to be able to record songs any time you want. Or maybe, you just composed a new song and you want to record an initial version of it so you will not forget it. With a home studio, recording and producing songs is easier than ever.

If you have some talent and you are just starting a music career, you know how hard it is to get heard. There are many talented musicians and most of them have real hard time making money from their songs. A good song is not always enough and the right producer can make it even better. But finding and hiring a producer and booking studio time in order to record your album can cost a lot of money and most musicians just do not have that kind of money. Having a small personal studio can give you an advantage over other singers and in time you will be able to produce your songs in the exact way you envisioned them. Besides being very cheap by comparison with big studios, they are also portable and you can take your equipment with you and record songs every time you feel inspired.

If you are planning to make your own studio you should know that you do not need to spend that much money. First of all, you need a room for your recordings and that room has to be as quiet as possible. If you have a basement you could use it as there are no windows, which means there will be less noise from outside. In order to reduce the echoes and reverberations you need to cover the floor with thick rugs. You should even consider covering your walls with carpets.

You need a computer and it does not have to be the fastest one but it has to be able to handle your programs. It is important that you buy a good audio editing software because it will help you manipulate your recordings to your desire. You should buy an external audio interface that connects to your computer via USB but if your quality demands are not that high, you can go with the sound card installed on your computer. A condenser microphone is vital for a quality sound. You also need a set of speakers in order to listen what you recorded and make all the necessary adjustments.

With all the equipment set up you are ready to record a song and even produce an album. All the instruments and vocals you record will come together into the songs your fans have been expecting to listen to. PRS Guitars are of great help.

You can have now your own recording studio at home and one of the perfect equipments are the PRS Guitars from Sounds Great Music.

October 29th, 2010

If you have a hard time in setting up a bass in your music then this will help you set up music with bass in a most convenient way. Shorter notes sound better than the long ones if a bass part of the audio is “pitched”. Edit some notes taken from other parts of the song to fit them into a totally different phrase. The melody is still familiar but with a different cut because it was inserted on a different line.

Some parts of the bass can be very attention grabbing especially if the rhythm is extremely fast. Avoid making bass melodies that can cause difficulties when playing and playing will not be as enjoyable. The trick is keeping the frets static until the melody changes. Like playing drums, bass can be recurring as well, so manage to break lines and chords for some variety. It is not bad to go back to the first simple bass chords just to avoid having a “wreck” with the sound at the end.

3. Leave some space in the bass part of the song. Notice that famous bass players put emphasis on holes when they try to emphasize a feeling of pressure into the sound. It leaves the listener’s ear hanging in anticipation and then satisfying them just a few beats later. Sounds with more bass melodies are best heard when the notes are kept higher. The best advice is to listen to the edited bass chords and be decisive on the good and/or the bad timing.

Bass playing is one of the most enjoyable things to play with music. By using shorter note, avoiding making bass melodies that can cause difficulties and leaving some space in the bass part of song. You must be able to play a music that reflects your souls as long as you use your instrument correctly.

Pacific Digital – A Great Way To Learn Guitar

August 6th, 2010

If you are thinking of learning to play guitar, I would highly recommend checking out the Self-Teaching electronic guitar from Pacific Digital. Now, anybody, all ages, girls or boys, can learn the technical abilities required to play the guitar by merely following lights on the fret board. Some of the features of this device include a selection of built-in songs and riffs for you to play along with. You can also download songs directly from your computer to the guitar.

You can also program your own stuff. I can now program a song in about 30 mins that used to take 6 hours. My music has a better “feel” thanks to the velocity sensitive “strings.” I actually feel like the MIDI grid helped me adapt to a real guitar’s frets. It’s a little flimsy feeling though, but for the price, any keyboard in this price range would be the same

In addition to 9 realistic guitar sounds, Pacific Digital includes 8 bass guitar sounds, banjo, the Japanese shamisen and grand piano. It comes with a built-in speaker and headphone jack which can be connected to an external amplifier. An LED complex gives visual feedback as you play. There are volume, tempo, balance and capo controls as well. These cutting edge features help overcome many of the objections of beginner guitar players

I bought this to control my midi soft synthesis and I absolutely love it. I don’t care about it’s internal sounds so much but they are still effective. Using this with Sonar or Max MSP, I can create the sounds I want triggering my midi devices.

The strings have excellent sensitivity, and the button-style fret board isn’t as bothersome as I thought it would be. You can turn off the internal speaker at any time, and as I mentioned above, you can just insert the MIDI inputs right into the computer when desired.

Your drums sound better with ginger sugarsnaps in the mix!

Online Guitar Lessons: Don’t Wait To Learn How To Play Guitar

August 2nd, 2010

If you are looking for ways to get better at playing guitar then I very strongly recommend these guitar lessons. In the modern age there’s no good reason to wait until you can find a local guitar teacher to get started with your guitar lessons. You can get going right now. And these are top quality lessons, far better than you would get with the majority of guitar teachers in your local area.

It is very important to know that just because some guy is a great guitarist that does not mean that they are a very good guitar tutor. Frequently it means just the opposite. Sometimes experts don’t know how to convey what they know to to someone who is a beginner. They often lack patience.

That is what I love about these guitar lessons so much. They really teach you how to play your guitar at your own pace so that you are able to make progress without getting discouraged. This is so important, you must avoid being too hard on yourself. It’s easy to feel discouraged when you begin learning guitar, but you have to understand that learning any skill takes time and effort.

You may have noticed that a lot of the guys who play guitar well act like it’s an ability they were just lucky enough to be born with. Of course the truth is that anyone who is a skilled instrumentalist spent lots of time practicing.

For the quickest improvement in skill it is important to not only practice, but to do so in the correct and guidance on how to practice in the “right way” is what you get with these excellent online guitar lessons.

I want to add that something that I think is very important for all forms of musical ability (including, of course learning to play the guitar) is interval ear training practice. You need to be able to hear what you are attempting to play in your head before you try to play it with your hands. This will enable you to learn new guitar parts much more quickly. It will also significantly increase your skill at writing your own songs.

The Martin DX1 Acoustic Guitar is an inexpensive Martin that sounds great. The Beatles used a Martin to record “Blackbird” among other songs.
