Our human brains have the awesome ability to recreate past excellence. We can imagine ourselves playing the violin in an excellent fashion. What we are doing here is training our control center in our brain to trigger the action mechanisms to play what we have visualized. It has been said that imagination is more powerful than willpower. When we play the violin without the actual instrument we are creating a mind to muscle association, known as muscle memory. This is one of the secrets of the pros.
By practicing this way, you not only become proficient in learning the technical elements of the violin, you also become more aligned with becoming a master violinist. You can probably just realize how powerful it is to imagine yourself playing every single note with complete accuracy because you have to use the visual parts of your mind, the auditory parts of your mind and the kinesthetic parts of the mind. This is one of the processes that master violin players use because they internalize the playing of a piece of music and become better, learn more, become better, learn more. It is a perpetual cycle.
When you get to the stage where you can play the violin inside your mind, with no snags or confusion, you can positively say that you know the musical piece internally and this will help you to master a particular piece. If you don’t 100% know the musical piece internally then you’ll rapidly spot the errors and parts to work on with regards to recall. To learn the violin with skill and competency, you must first know the basic fundamentals and concepts. From there you then must be able to practically be able to apply the basic principles and techniques that you learn. As you start begin to learn violin you need to pay close attention to the techniques and skills which you will learn when beginning the violin. This is required because if you keep on repeating the same bad habits, they may be very hard to unlearn. You then may find yourself learning the violin without any real skill and may not reach a very good level. It’s vital that your practice the correct habits over and over again. This is the true path to violin playing success.
